In a charter, the name 'arpa' was first stated as Tarpa in 1299, then as Thorpa in 1321, and finally as Corpa in 1332. His church, named for St. Andrew, had already been built by this time. In the 13th century, the Tarpai family already owned the settlement. Torpa was the name given to it in the 1333 registry of papal tithes. In the Middle Ages, the settlement with an uneven floor layout already held the status of a market town. Prince Gábor Bethlen issued the settlement a letter of privilege on March 1, 1626, ensuring unfettered trade and duty-free treatment across the country.
